Key flavours: fresh and floral, with a hint of citrus

“The measure of good character,” states the slogan on the bottle. And as the world’s first social enterprise gin, Ginerosity can be forgiven if they take the proverbial high ground.

Gin with a cause

The Ginerosity team is made up of a 5 key players: Chris Thewlis (social entrepreneur), Dave Mullen (marketing specialist), David Moore (drinks industry expert), and of course the all important distillers – Pickering’s Gin founders Marcus Pickering and Matt Gammell.

In the year since they launched Ginerosity helped six adults access a volunteer programme in Africa

Partnering with charity Challenges Worldwide, the gin’s profits help young adults (aged 18-25) from disadvantaged backgrounds take part in International Citizenship Service (ICS) programmes.  Through ICS, with the help of a Ginerosity grant, they gain skills and personal development from overseas placements.

In the year since they launched Ginerosity have already helped six adults access a volunteer programme in Africa. Upon their return they achieved a business consultancy qualification from the Chartered Management Institute, which was directly funded by Ginerosity.

You can read more about this wonderful programme and how the profits are used on the Ginerosity website.

Flavour Profile

While the project is a noble one, unless the product is good it’s not going to be a success – thankfully Ginerosity is seriously good!

With heather as one of the ten botanicals, it’s quite floral and sweet on the nose, almost perfume-like, while juniper and citrus also punch through.

Distilled by the award-winning Pickering’s at their Summerhall Distillery, you’d expect it to be a quality gin. The first sip is a ‘wow’ moment – Ginerosity is absolutely stunning in flavour. The floral and citrus notes coming to the fore, with a crisp, mild pepper finish. It truly is a delicious gin.

Mint is a classic pairing with citrus notes, and this is the recommended garnish for a Ginerosity and tonic. It works perfectly, adding a little extra sweetness to compliment the flavours. It’s a knockout combination and Ginerosity is easily one of the best G&Ts I’ve had in a some time.
